BRITISH ATTITUDE TO AUSTRALIA

Trend Of Negotiations May Be Changed (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 29. The election of the Labour Government in Britain may change tire whole trend of negotiations between Australia and Britain on many postwar subjects, says the Canberra correspondent of The Daily Telegraph. At future meetings of the British Commonwealth of nations there will be three Labour Governments and two Conservative Governments around the council table. Labour Governments will represent Britain, Australia and New Zealand and Conservative Governments South Africa and. Canada. Foreign affairs experts in Canberra believe that this is certain to change the Empire’s attitude to many world problems. A significant change is expected in the approach of the Empire bloc to Labour problems at the conference of the International Labour Organization meeting in Paris in September. Australia and New Zealand have been alone among the Empire countries in pressing for a number of basic changes in working conditions, standards of living and the operation of international agreements. The British Labour party supported their attitude, but could not alter the direction of the British Government’s arguments. Australian leaders hope that an early Empire conference will be held to consider Empire policy. Australia hopes now to secure a rapid decision on the problems that have been preventing a migration agreement between Australia and Britain.
