WOOL SHIPMENTS
SCOURED AND SLIPE SENT FIRST (P.A.) GISBORNE, June 4. While New Zealand wool producers are awaiting with intei'est the reopening of the wool traffic between the Dominion and the United Kingdom on a normal peacetime scale, piecemeal shipments have been proceeding as space in overseas vessels has been available.
A significant feature of this reduced traffic is that scoured and slipe wools appear to have a distinct preference, and the assumption is that these consignments are selected with a view to getting woollen manufactui'ers on the Continent of Europe moving as early as possible. It is reported that most of the slipe and scoured wool held in Gisborne ‘ is on Russian account, and that since November over 10,000 bales have been dispatched to main ports.
