SURVEY FROM AIR POSSIBLE

a 1 Photographs Of Stewart Island A promise that if the opportunity offered aerial photographs of Stewart Island would be taken is made in a letter which Mr G. R. Herron, M.P., has received from the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones. Several months ago, at the request of the Southland Progress League, Mr Herron made representations to the Minister that the Catalina flying boat, which was then at Bluff, should take aerial photographs of the island. However, because of adverse weather the flying boat was unable to carry -out certain departmental operations for which it was specially sent to Southland and consequently aerial photographs of Stewart Island could not be taken.

After recounting these facts in his letter to Mr Herron, the Minister adds: “The request of the Progress League will be borne in mind if and when a suitable machine with the necessary photographic equipment visits the Southland district.”
