THANKSGIVING SERVICES

ARRANGEMENTS FOR TODAY There will be a parade to and a thanksgiving service at Rugby Park at 2.45 p.m. today. The service will be conducted by representatives of the Ministers’ Association. The hymns will be led by a massed choir and massed brass bands. The parade will be in the hands of the army authorities in conjunction with the R.S.A. Thanksgiving demonstrations will be held in the Civic Theatre at 8 o’clock tonight. The programme is being arranged by the musical societies of the city and the combined orchestras. Only Red Cross cars or other vehicles with a pass signed by Mi- E. Stopford, city traffic inspector, will be admitted to Rugby Park. The public will be admitted to Rugby Park through the main gate, Tweed street. Accommodation will be available in the old stand and portion of the main stand. PARADE ARRANGEMENTS The ceremonial parade to be held to the park will be commanded by Lieu-tenant-Colonel A. R. Cockerell, D. 5.0., with Major I. O. Manson as staff officer. In conjunction with the R.S.A. all members of the armed forces, secondary school cadets and other organizations, including the Home Guard, will parade.

The starting point of the march will be opposite the National Broadcasting Station, and the starting time is 2.15 p.m. The order of the march is as follows: Red Cross cars, Civic Band, Navy and Merchant Service, South African Veterans, First N.Z.E.F., Regimental Band, 2nd N.Z.E.F., Air Force and A.T.C., Home Services Association, Pipe Band, Nursing Services (civilian), Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Girl Guides, Salvation Army, Sea Scouts, Boys’ Brigade, W.W.S.A., Southland Boys’ High School, Southland Technical College. The following areas will be closed to traffic between the hours of 1 p.m. and 2.30 p.m.:—Tay street: From Nith-Kel-vin streets to Conon-Deveron streets, also on the north side between Deveron and Jed streets. Deveron street And Conon streets, between Don and Forth streets. Esk street, from Dee street to Kelvin street, if conditions warrant, will be closed to traffic between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and midnight.
