REPORT ON FINANCES In his report to the monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee, the secretary submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments for March. These showed that on March 31 there was a credit balance of £12,279/18/9, which included £lO,OOO invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet begun. Statements of receipts and payments for the. year ended March 31 as compared with the amounts estimated for the period were also submitted, the actual maintenance receipts being £BB9/0/1, and the actual maintenance payments £157/8/- more than the estimate. The treasurer submitted the committee’s estimates for the year ending March 31, 1946. To meet the requirements in the maintenance account it was resolved that the charge on the associated hospital boards for the maintenance of patients be fixed at 1/6 a day, and that a capital levy of £5OOO be made on the associated boards to finance the capital works proposed to be undertaken during the year. The Director-General of Health advised that the Minister of Health has approved that a tuberculosis conference be held at Dunedin on May 23 and 24, but that it be confined to delegates from hospital districts of the southern half of the South Island. It was decided that the chairman, medical superintendent and secretary attend on behalf of the committee. The secretary reported that ori May 1 the associated boards had patients in the institution as follows:—Southland 73, South Canterbury 34, Ashburton 8, Waitaki 16, South Otago 7, Vincent 8, Maniototo 2, a total of 148. Since the previous meeting 12 patients from two hospital districts had been discharged and there was a waiting list of 12 patients from four districts.
