WHARF DISPUTE AT AUCKLAND
No Work On Union Company Ship
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 8. After another dispute between the Union Steam Ship Company and the Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union on Saturday morning, no work was done on Saturday afternoon or yesterday on a ship discharging fruit and copra. The dispute arose over the temporary absence of one man while the timekeeper was taking the roll of workers on Saturday morning. Another man was employed, but when he reached the ship he found that the absent worker had returned. Work continued in the morning while negotiations proceeded between the union representative and representatives of the company, including the wharf superintendent, Captain Anderson. After the lunch hour the union representatives returned to the ship with the man who had been absent. The timekeeper ordered the foreman not to allow the man to start work, and no further work was done on the ship.
