TRANSFER OF LABOUR TO NORTH ISLAND

Manufacturers To Meet Manpower Director

(Special) DUNEDIN, March 6. Information has been received by the secretary of the Otago-Soutfxland Manufacturers’ Association (Mr F. L. Hitchens) that the Director of Manpower (Mr H. L. Bockett) will visit Christchurch at an early date to discuss with manufacturers the protests that have been made against the transfer of labour from the South Island to the North Island. The Otago-Southland Manufacturers Association has been asked to send representatives to attend the meeting as the issue is regarded as vitally important to manufacturers in Otago and Southland. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews) has also been invited to attend the conference as the representative of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association and representatives of the National Council of Women have also been invited to be present. A case is at present being prepared for presentation to the Director of Manpower.
