Mi46B STUD SHEEP SALE REDUCTION SALE OF THE “UPLANDS” STUD OF ROMNEY MARSH EWES AND RAMS on account of MR MATTHEW KIRKPATRICK. At the Homestead, GREENVALE, near WAIKAKA, Southland. On THURSDAY, MARCH 22, at 10 a.m. sharp. The Government having acquired portion of Mr Kirkpatrick’s land for soldier settlement, he is obliged to reduce his flock and will offer as follows:— 30—STUD ROMNEY RAMS and 20—STUD ROMNEY EWES, all mixed ages to be offered singly. 800—3, 4-shear and aged STUD ROMNEY EWES, to be offered in lots of five. The above represents the whole of the 3 and 4-shear ewes of this flock. During the history of this flock, 31 years, over five hundred selected EWES have been purchased, mainly from Waiorongomai, Clydevale, Castle Rock, Waimahaka, Bainfield, Riverslea and Te Marama flocks. The principal RAMS have been acquired from Wairongomai, Clydevale, Castle Rock, Waimahaka, Penrose, Alloa, Te Marama, Motu-ra, Kamano, Riverslea and Leedstown. Among the foregoing were many male and female show winners and champions, including Royal. The cream of the home bred sires has also been retained. Wairongomai blood predominates throughout the flock. The “Uplands” flock is bred on country 60 miles inland; up to and over 1000 feet above sea level and in New Zealand’s most southerly province. The climate is rigorous. The main features of the flock are splendid constitution, good conformation, sound bone, dense fleece, even and well crimped, of good length, lustre and weight. They are extremely hardy, thrive under almost any conditions and fatten readily. The ideal dual purpose sheep. The demand for RAMS and EWES from this flock has been, for many years, far in excess of the large production. All sheep will, as usual, be exhibited in natural condition.

Catalogues will be posted to Romney breeders throughout the Dominion and intending buyers are requested to bring these to the sale. Will intending Northern buyers please note that the latest suitable train reaches Gore at noon on Wednesday, 21st March. LIGHT LUNCHEON PROVIDED. Auctioneers in conjunction:— DALGETY & CO.
