PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT SOON In reply to a letter from, the Invercargill District Council of Primary Production inquiring about the British Government’s linen flax requirements, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Roberts, said he hoped very shortly to be able to make a public announcement on the subject. The only reason that this had been delayed was that it was not desired to make a public statement which might clash with the drive to increase the wheat acreage in the coming season. “If there is no priority for linen flax labour we are not likely to get a good response next season, said a member at yesterday’s meeting of the council. The opinion was expressed that if the food position became desperate they must concentrate on foodstuffs, which must get first priority. The chairman, Mr G. Stevenson, said that generally speaking they wanted foodstuffs first.
