TIMBER MILL TOTALLY DESTROYED
Big Fire In Alton Valley Damage estimated at more than £3OOO was caused when the timber mill of Sherriff and Co. at Alton Valley, seven miles from Tuatapere, was totally destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. The mill was not covered by insurance and the owners are heavy losers. The fire was discovered about 4.30 a.m., but it had a strong hold, and by 5 a.m. the mill was completely gutted. Nothing was saved. A large quantity of boxwood and cheese crates near the mill were destroyed, but fortunately the fire did not spread to the main timber yard. The cause of the fire is .not known.
