OFFICIAL RESIDENCE FOR POSTMASTER

PROPERTY IN TAY STREET TAKEN OVER A house property in Tay street, near McMaster street, has been taken over under the Public Works Act and from now on it will be the official residence of Invercargill’s chief postmaster. A proclamation that the land has been taken over for this purpose is contained in the Gazette. In the past, when a new chief postmaster took up duty in Invercargill, he had to find his own home and probably had to stay in a hotel with his family until he did so. The Post and Telegraph Department has apparently decided to overcome the difficulty of finding a house by acquiring a property. In Invercargill an official residence has been provided by the Police Department for the Inspector of Police for many years. The schedule accompanying the proclamation in the Gazette gives the area of the land as one rood.
