MR CURTIN’S BIRTHDAY
Prime Minister Now 60 (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 7. The Prime Minister, Mr Curtin, will celebrate his 60th birthday tomorrow, resting at the Prime Minister’s Lodge. Under doctors’ orders, he will not return to his official duties for some weeks. However, his health is greatly improved, and he is expected to make an unofficial call at a Cabinet meeting to be held this week. Mr Curtin has led the Federal Parliamentary Labour Party since 1935— a record term. By the 1946 election, he will have exceeded the aggregate term as Australian Labour Prime Minister of four years 11 months, held by Mr Andrew Fisher.
