Fair to Cloudy (Special) WELLINGTON, January 5. Following is the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m.. tomorrow: — Anti-cyclones are over the north Tasman and south of Southland. A trough remains east of Canterbury. Moderate easterly winds predominating. The weather fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate. The weather in Invercargill yesterday remained dull and overcast throughout the day. Heavy rain fell about 6 p.m., and continued steadily during the evening. A fresh easterly wind prevailed. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cold, calm and overcast. The barometer reading was 29.92 in. (falling). THE TlDES.—Saturday: High water, Invercargill, 8.54 a.m., 9.20 p.m.; Bluff, 8.13 a.m., 8.39 p.m.; Riverton, 7.13 a.m., 7.39 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 7.22 a.m., 7.48 p.m. Sunday: High water, Invercargill, 9.45 a.m., 10.12 p.m.; Bluff, 9.04 a.m., 9.31 p.m.; Riverton, 8.04 a.m., 8.31 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 8.13 a.m., 8.40 p.m. THE SUN.—Saturday: Rises, 5.02 a.m.; sets, 8.43 p.m. Sunday: Rises, 5.03 a.m.; sets, 8.42 p.m. RAINFALL (From our observer at the airport, by courtesy of the Public Works Department).—The rainfall for the 24 hours ended 5 p.m. yesterday was seven points.
