MASCOT AERODROME TO BE ENLARGED
Opening Of New Service SYDNEY, December 18. A modified scheme to make Mascot Aerodrome into a modern air terminal will be submitted to the Federal Cabinet early next year. The scheme, which embraces the partial reconstruction and enlargement of the present airport, is estimated to cost £3,000,000. The opening of the new R.A.F. Ferry Command land plane service to Can-
ada last month and additional new international air services which are to operate from Sydney in 1945 make the Mascot improvements necessary. The work under the proposed plan will: Build Mascot into a great allweather airport capable of taking the largest planes in the world; install the most modern aids to safe flying, including the largest radio beam and air-to-ground equipment; construct new official terminal buildings including facilities for customs, medical inspection, airline offices, a cafe, and waiting lounges; lengthen the landing strips and build additional ones. Earlier plans to include a flying boat base as an adjunct to Mascot have been deferred.
