Resorts Within Easy Reach Of City As motoring during the Christmas and New Year holidays will be governed largely by the petrol coupons available, the Automobile Association (Southland) has prepared the following list of holiday resorts and other places of interest within comparatively easy reach of the city, the distance from Invercargill being shown in* parenthesis in each case:— Awarua Bay (15)—Camping, bathing. Bluff (17)—Camping, bathing. Chaslands (60)—Camping, trout fishing, shooting, bathing, some remarkable caves and beautiful bush and coastal scenery. Colac Bay (31)—Camping, bathing, fishing and shooting. Curio Bay (52) —Fine weather road, camping. An ancient petrified forest is one of the many interesting features of this locality. Dunsdale (25) —Trout fishing, camping, beautiful bush country. Forest Hill Reserved? 1 /:,)—Beautiful scenic reserve. Lora Gorge (30)— Camping, trout fishing. Lumsden (56)— Camping, trout fishing, shooting. Mossburn (61)— Camping, trout fishing, pig and deer shooting. Orawia (45)—Trout fishing and shooting. Orepuki (42)—Bathing, camping, fishing and shooting. Oreti Beach (6)—Bathing and camping. Otapiri Gorge (31)—Camping, trout fishing, bush scenery. Pahia (39)—Bathing, camping, sea fishing. Piano Flat (84)—Ideal camping, scenic reserve, deer stalking, fishing, tramping. Pomahaka (60)—Camping, trout fishing. Riverton Rocks (26) —Bathing, boating, trout and dep sea fishing. Tautuku Beach (69)—Camping, bathing, fishing, beautiful bush scenery and one of the finest beaches in New Zealand, perfectly semi-circular. Manapouri and Te Anau (98)—Camping, fishing, boating, scenic trips. Tuatapere (51)— Camping, trout fishing. One of the most beautiful domains in Southland. Wakapatu Bay (34)— Camping, sea fishing, bathing. Wyndham (27)—Trout fishing, pig shooting. Among the more distant trips are those to Queenstown (120 miles via the Lake road) and to the Eglinton Valley. Motorists who intend to visit the Eglinton and Hollyford Valleys are advised that they can motor as far as Marion, which is at the junction of the lower Holly ford Valley road, and not to the mouth of the Homer Tunnel or to the lower Hollyford. Camping areas with facilities have been provided at various spots. All the main Southland roads will, it is expected, be in reasonably good condition for holiday travel.
