PLUNKET SHIELD TEAM

PROPOSED VISIT BY CANTERBURY . A letter from the Canterbury Cricket Association suggesting a two-day .match at Invercargill after the conclusion of the Canterbury-Otago Plunket Shield match in Dunedin on February 12 was received by the management committee of the Southland Cricket Association at a special meeting yesterday. Arrangements would have to be made for the players to travel by bus from Dunedin on February 12, stated the letter, and the game would have to be played on February 13 and 14, so that the' team could reum to Christchurch on February 15. The difficulty of obtaining transport was outlined by the chairman, Mr G. Agnew. “A Plunket Shield team visiting Southland is what we have wanted for years,” said Mr R. W. Pollok. “It would be a wonderful Teg in’ for years to come.” He suggested that the association examine all means of bringing the team south, even air transport. A committee, comprising Messrs Agnew and Pollok and the secretary, Mr H. T. Robertson, was appointed to go into the question, with full power to act. SOUTHLAND TEAM CHOSEN The following team to represent Southland against Otago on January 5 and 6 has been chosen by the selectors (Messrs G. H. Uttley, G. Gunn and G. Agnew):—A. H. Cutler, C. V. Shirley, A. Storrie, R, W. Pollok, N. Forde, R. Dunlop, E. P. Hawke, A. Pickard, G. Overton, G. Marshall and H. Fraser. The 12th man will be selected after Saturday’s matches. H. N. Semmens (Appleby) and J. C. Scandrett (Old Boys) were not available. Any member unable to play is asked to advise the secretary as soon as possible. Tlie following members were present: —Messrs Agnew, A. Jordan, H. Drees, Pollok, T. H. McKenzie, N. Forde and R. Dunlop. UMPIRES FOR TOMORROW Following are the umpires for Saturday’s cricket matches:— Senior—Union v. Old Boys (Messrs A. V. Poole and H. Drees); Invercargill v. Marist (Messrs G. F. Gunn and A. Anderson); Appleby v. Bluff (Messrs G. Agnew and C. Haberfield). Junior A—Union v. Borstal (Mr H. Groves); Old Boys v. High School (Mr G. H.. Geddes); Georgetown v. Marist (Mr A. Lavelle). Junior B—Old Boys v. A.T.C. (Mr G. Ramsay); Appleby v. High School (Mr A. H. Robins).
