Mrs A. Chisolm, Otautau, has been visiting Dunedin. Mrs W. J. A. McGregor, Grey street, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Misses Imelda and Cicely Wills left on Tuesday for Wellington and Hastings.

Miss Gwen Ferguson, Liddel street, was hostess at a gift evening on Saturday for Miss Dorothy Forrester, whose marriage takes place soon.

Mrs J. Simpson, Mary street, left yesterday for Dunedin to visit her parents, Mr and ‘Mrs A. O. Stokes, Highgate, Maori Hill.

Mrs H. W. Penny and Mrs J. H. Williams, Waikiwi, were hostesses at a pantry afternoon on Saturday for Miss Edna Rance, whose marriage takes place on Saturday.

The home and foreign missions of the Methodist Church will benefit by more than £3O as the result of a garden party held at the home of Mrs Stanley Brown, Don street, yesterday afternoon. Women members of St. Peter s and Central Methodist Churches were in charge of delicatessen, produce and cake stalls, which did a brisk trade. OBITUARY.— The death occurred on Tuesday evening of Miss Edna . May Ross, who was born in Invercargill 22 years ago. Miss Ross was educated at South School and the Southland Technical College. She was employed by Calder Mackay Co. Ltd. at Invercargill, and then joined the dressmaking department of H. and J. Smith Ltd. Miss Ross had been in ill health for a month before her death. Of a cheerful nature, she was liked by all who knew her. She is survived by her parents and a sister, Miss Rose Ross.

The death has occurred of Mrs F. McMurtrie, wife of Mr Frank McMurtrie of Winton. Mrs McMurtrie was born in Balclutha. She had lived in Winton with her husband for 28 years. She did not take an active part in public affairs, but was an active worker for many objects for patriotic and church organizations She was well-known and highly respected by a wide circle of friends. She is survived by her husband and four sons and one daughter. ENGAGEMENTS Mr and Mrs W. B. Cox, “Clover Downs,” South Hillend, announce the engagement o£ their daughter, Dorothy, to David Alexander Miller (Sub-Lieutenant R.N.Z.N.V.R.), younger son of Mr and Mrs J. Miller, fort Chalmers. w The engagement is announced between Dorothy Esma May, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Jellyman, Otautau, and William James Strong, R.N.Z.N., only son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Strong, Dunedin. Mrs E. L. Kelly, Dunearn, South Hillend, wishes to announce the engagement of her youngest daughter, Hazel May, to Donald McLennan, second son of Mr W. Munro, South Hillend. w
