FUNCTIONS FOR SERVICEMEN
WINTON.—The Radio Hall, Winton was filled for a social in honour of L.A.C. I. A. Stewart, who is home on leave. L.A.C. Stewart enlisted in the Air Force shortly after war was declared. Mr N. Metzger, the Mayor, in presenting a gift expressed the residents’ best wishes to L.A.C. Stewart. Mr J. F. Harrison, on behalf of Winton R.S.A., conveyed the association’s best wishes. L.A.C. Stewart’s brother, Eric Stewart, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, was killed about three years ago. BROWNS.—There was a large gathering in the Browns Hall to welcome home Sergeant W. Henderson, Driver R. Billig, and Pte S. M. Eddy, who recently returned from overseas. The function took the form of a social and dance. During the evening the chairman, Mr H. Campbell, in presenting monetary gifts to the returned servicemen, said the residents were delighted to see them back in the district and wished them good health. Mr F, Ashley presented framed certificates. Mrs A. D. Campbell spoke on behalf of the W.D.F.U. and Mr W. Cahill, R.S.A., extended best wishes and expressed the districts appreciation of their services. Mr A. D. Campbell made a presentation to Private Eddy from the Browns tile works.
