NATIONAL SAVINGS

Southland Investments Weekly national war savings results in the Southland district were again not very satisfactory last week although 20 of the 23 towns in Southland reached their quotas. Investments totalled £1994, the amount required to make up the district quota of £3llO being taken from the surplus. The quota successes were recorded at Invercargill, Arrowtown, Balfour, Bluff, Edendale, Gore, Halfmoon Bay, Lumsden, Nightcaps. Ohai, Orepuki, Otautau, Queenstown, Riverton, Thornbury. Tuatapere, Waikaia, Waikaka. Winton and Wyndham. A total of £144,739 has now been received towards Southland’s quota of £161,720 for the year ending March 31 next. The amount still to be raised is £17.000. It is considered that this amount could be raised this month.
