HIGH-SPEED GERMAN ROCKET PLANE

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, December 2. The German rocket-propelled Messerschmitt 1638, or “the flying firework,” is capable of well over 500 miles an hour, states the Press Association. Reports from the front have given the speed as high as 600 miles an hour. The jet-propelled Messerschmitt 262 A is capable of from 450 to 500 miles an hour. However, the range of these high-speed German planes is limited. The rocket plane can fly only a few minutes under power, but can glide some distance. It has a very high rate of climb and is used as a quick interceptor. The jet plane is employed as a fighter bomber for ground attack and has four 30 mm. guns in the nose.
