AUSTRALIA TO HELP NETHERLANDS
REHABILITATION OF EAST INDIES
(Rec. 7 p.m.) CANBERRA, Dec. 2. The Commonwealth Munitions Department has begun negotiations to provide a wider range of goods in the next 12 months for the rehabilitation of the Netherlands East Indies. The Netherlands Government is seeking goods to the value of about £10,000,000, Announcing the negotiations, the Minister for Munitions, Mr N. J. O. Makin, said he hoped to secure a major part of the orders for Australian manufacturers.. Australia was already fulfilling export orders for Britain, India and New Zealand. The items included locomotives and rolling stock, components, steel rails, machine tools and electrical equipment. In 1944 the value of the consignments to Britain or the arms and munitions drawn from Aus-, tralia’s production was £3,500,000.
