HOSPITAL STAFFING

MEASURES IN WELLINGTON (P.A ) WELLINGTON, November 6. An announcement that special measures are being taken to meet urgent staffing needs of hospitals in Wellington and Lower Hutt was made by the Minister of Industrial Manpower Mr McLagan. All unmarried women ’aged 21 and 22 years are to be called up for interview immediately, he said. In an accompanying statement Mr McLagan said: “Priority in the care of sick and wounded cannot be disrupted, and whatever other work we must drop we must see that our hospitals are staffed. The women called up will be classified by manpower officers in order of individual priority and will be directed to hospitals in that order until the present emergency is met.” I
