NATIONAL INSURANCE

(Special) DUNEDIN, November 4. The annual report o£ the National Insurance Company of New Zealand, Ltd., states that the net premium income for the year ended September 30 amounted to £372,452 6/-. After making full provision for losses outstanding there Is an underwriting surplus of £33,973/12/9. Interest and rents, less Income tax, amount to £25,796/9/5 and the balance brought forward from last year totals £37,866/14/11, amounting in all to £97,636/17/1. An interim dividend of 4d per share was paid in May last. This absorbed £16,666/13/4, leaving available a balance of £80,970/3/9. The directors have added £15,000 to the Investment fluctuation account and £2500 to the contingency account and have written £5OOO off the company's premises. They now recommend the payment of a further dividend of 5d a share, which will take £20,833/6/8, making a total distribution for the year of 9d a share, or a total of £37,500, and to carry forward £37,636/17/1. BRUCE MANUFACTURING (Special) DUNEDIN, November 4. After the provision of £12,000 for depreciation on buildings, plant and machinery and £67,000 for the payment of taxation, the directors of the Bruce Manufacturing Company Ltd. report that the net profit for the year ended September 19 was £19,909 and the amount in the profit and loss appropriation account was £31,752. It is recom- ’ mended this' amount be dealt with as follows:—

Payment of dividend on cumulative preference shares 2800 Payment of dividend of 6 per cent on ordinary shares 6000 Payment of bonus of 2 per cent on ordinary shares 2000 Transfer to reserve account 11,000 This leaves £9952 to be carried forward.
