OBITUARY
Sir John Dill
(Rec. 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 4. The death has occurred of Field-Mar-shal Sir John Dill at the age of 63. He was chief of the British Joint Staff Mission in the United States. He had been confined to an army hospital for several months suffering from a refractory type of anaemia for which no remedy is known. 'Hie Secretary for War, Mr Henry L. Stimson, General George C. Marshall, Chief of the U.S. General Staff and
General Arnold issued a statement paying tribute to Field-Marshal Dill.
General Marshall said that no man had made a greater contribution to the complete military co-operation of the British and American forces, which was a most vital requirement for an Allied victory. Mr Roosevelt has awarded Sir John Dill the Distinguished Service Medal posthumously, “for an enduring contribution towards the victorious conclusion of the war and the harmony of purpose which is essential to our security in the years to come.”
