NASSELLA TUSSOCK AND HEMLOCK
Concern In Lumsden
District
A remit asking that the attention of the Department of Agriculture be drawn to the rapid spread of hemlock in the northern districts of
Southland was received at the meeting of the Southland provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday. The remit pointed out that hemlock was a poisonous weed dangerous to stock and human beings and asked that steps be taken for its control.
Another remit from the Lumsden branch expressed concern at the rapid spread of nassella tussock in the northern districts and suggested that if methods for its control were not being adopted such steps should be taken immediately.
Because of the length of the order paper the executive did not find time to deal with either remit and they were held over for consideration at the next meeting of fM executive.
