GOLF TOURNEY AT GORE

SENIOR TITLE TO F. W. DIXON

Record entries were received for the annual tournament conducted by the Gore Golf Club over the Labour Day weekend. A feature of the events was the success of J. P. Steans (Gore), who won the intermediate championship for the third year in succession. He took 84 for the first round and 91 for the second, giving him an aggregate of 175. The runner-up was J. Hosking (Queen’s Park), who tied with G. R. Martin, Gore (87-91-178), and won on the count back. F. W. Dixon (Balmacewan) gave a good performance in winning the senior championship. His first round score was 73, and he completed the second round in 82, giving him ja total of 155. The runner-up was D, A. Patterson (Queen’s Park), whose card read 79-81-160. A score of 93-95-188 earned R. Souter (Chisholm Park) the junior championship. H. Mdrrow, who represented the same club, carried off the second prize. Gore No. 4, with an aggregate of 599, won the teams match. Gore No. 3 (602) were second and Queen’s Park (619) was third. , At the end of play the prizes were presented by the president of the Gore Club (Mr J. A. S. Aitken). Sutherland (Gore) 87-14-73; R. Hedges (Otago) 82-7-75; V. S. Milne (Wyndham) 86-11-75; E. J. Sheppard (Wyndham) 86-11-75. Thomson was eliminated because he had won the morning medal handicap and the winner was Barron. Junior. —H. Gresham (Gore) 87-18-69; D. King (Winton) 87-18-69; W. Wilkinson (Chisholm Park) 92-23-69; W. F. Young (Gore) 90-18-72; H. A. Price (Gore) 88-16-72. The medal aggregate was won by W. Wilkinson (Chisholm Park). A four-ball bogey match played on Saturday was won by C. R. Barron and D. B. Herron, 7 up. WOMEN’S MATCHES ON SATURDAY Women’s championships were held at Gore on Saturday, the following being the results: — A Grade.—Mrs G. R. Martin (Gore) 96-95-191; Mrs G. Glennie (Queen’s Park) 103-93-196; Mrs A. D. Reid (Gore) 96-102-198. Morning Medal Round.— Miss F. Milne (Wyndham) 96-17-79; Mrs G. R. Martin 96-17-79; Mrs A. D. Reid 96-17-79; Mrs J. H. George (Roxburgh) 99-16-83. Mesdames Martin and Reid were winners of other prizes and were eliminated, the trophies going to Miss Milne and Mrs George. Afternoon Medal Round.—Mrs Martin, 95-17-78; Mrs Glennie, 93-10-83; Mrs Reid, 102-17-85; Mrs George, 102-16-86; Mrs J! C. Hannan (Wyndham) 109-18-91. Mesdames Martin, Glennie and George were winners of other prizes and were eliminated, the trophies being awarded to Mesdames Reid and Hannan.

The best scores returned in a bogey match were: D. Wilson (4), 1 up; W. Strang (8), all square; A. J. Vernon (7), all square.
