FALSE STATEMENTS TO RATIONING OFFICER

MILK BAR PROPRIETOR

FINED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 6. > A warning that traders must cooperate with the Food Controller in his efforts to control supplies was issued by the Magistrate, Mr J; H. Luxford, when he fined William George Sayegh £3O on each of two charges of making a false statement with intent to deceive the rationing officer. The evidence showed the defendant was a milk bar proprietor who made false statements regarding the amount of sugar he was holding on two separate dates.

The defendant said he used more sugar in the summer than the winter and had accumulated the excess sugar found on his premises from his winter supplies. “You really usurped the functions of the Food Controller,” said the Magistrate, who added that the offence was serious because the defendant deliberately put in a wrong return.
