FAREWELL SOCIAL AT WAIMAHAKA

The Waimahaka Hall was filled when Mr and Mrs G. E. George and their family were tendered a farewell function on the eve of their departure from the district. Mr George has recently been appointed organizer for the National Party in the Southland Electorates. . Mr J. Tapper, the chairman, in making a presentation of a monetary gift made reference to the large and representative gathering which had met to honour Mr and Mrs George. Mr George had been a keen and enthusiastic member of the Home Guard, being second in command of D. Coy. of the Gorc-Waimahaka Battalion a keen member of the E.P.S.. Welcome Home Committee and Patriotic Committee, of which body he served as secretary for a period. He spoke of Mrs George’s musical talents. Other speakers were Messrs E. Perkins, W McLean and J. Beattie. Mr and Mrs George were accorded musical honours on returning thanks.
