BILL OF RIGHTS IS INVOKED
LONDON, Sept. 18. The 255-years-old Bill of Rights whereby subjects may petition the King, has been invoked by Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Bedfordshre tomato growers. They have made a direct appeal to his Majesty with the contention that a recent Food Ministry order “is contrary to the Constitution of England, and deprives us of the full benefits of the usual channels of trade.” The growers, who have received an acknowledgment from Buckingham Palace, complain that the Food Ministry curtails nurserymen’s business by issuing conditional licences, without providing compensation.
