MATAURA-CLINTON ROAD

Work To Be Completed

The Mataura-Clinton road is to be completed. This decision was made at a meeting of the Southland County Council yesterday. A letter from the Minister of Works (Mr Semple) stated that he was pre-’ pared to consider favourably the granting of a subsidy on a £2 for £1 basis for work on this road which could be completed during the present financial year.

The resident engineer (Mr W. G. Pearce) wrote stating that the Minister’s letter offered a grant for work which could be completed within the present financial year, but he was informed that if the council wished to let a contract to complete the whole of the unmetalled section, and if this section took the work into the next financial year, the Minister would be recommended to approve a subsidy being granted accordingly.

It was agreed that the subsidy be accepted and the whole of the work carried out.
