SICK AND WOUNDED SERVICEMEN

Arrival In Invercargill

A small, but enthusiastic, crowd of relations and friends welcomed a party of sick and wounded servicemen from the Mediterranean theatre at the Invercargill railway station last night. The bus carrying the men was scheduled to arrive at Invercargill about 10 p.m., but because of a delay at Dunedin it did not arrive until 11.30 o’clock. When the bus stopped at the station cheers were given for the men at the call of the Mayor, Mr A. Wachner, who then made a short speech. The men were also welcomed by Major I. O. Manson, area staff officer, and representatives of various patriotic organizations. The men, together with their next of kin, were taken to their homes by Red Cross transport cars. ■ During the journey from Dunedin the men were under the charge of Sergeant-Major R. Grieve, of the Sick and Wounded branch, Area 12. The only stretcher case in the Southland party, Private A. D. Curson, of Bowmont street, stayed at Dunedin last night. He will arrive in Invercargill tonight. Colonel D. Pottinger, whose name appeared in the list of members of the party, stayed in Wellington.
