INDIA’S FOOD SUPPLY

Position Considered Grave

(8.0.W.) RUGBY, August 3. “Despite all that has been done by the Government of India, the Provincial and State Governments, the Red Cross and other charitable organizaitions and individuals, and despite the 1800,000 tons of foodstuffs Britain has ; agreed to ship to India by . the end of September, the food position in India . remains grave.’’ This position was disi closed in a broadcast by Sir Firoz Khan Noon, representative of the Government of India in the War Cabinet. He said the troops in India—Allied and Indian—and increased war workjers had added to the food difficulties.

The new rice crop this year had abated the famine in Bengal, but the food situation remained India’s great anxiety and the shortages of last winter might be repeated.
