HOUSING SHORTAGE
Progress League Seeks
Information
The housing shortage will probably be discussed soon by the Southland Progress League. A letter has been sent by the league to local body representatives on the league executive asking for details of housing needs in their districts and also the number of houses likely to be required in the next three to five years.
The letter states: “It has been suggested that the league might interest itself in the matter, the object being that it may be possible to present some scheme to the authorities which might assist towards the alleviation of the problem in Southland.” A similar letter has been sent to the Real Estate Institute, Invercargill. The president of the league, Mr A. W. Jones, said yesterday that when the information was received he proposed to suggest to the executive of the league that a special committee be set up to study the problem. It was a pressing problem and he thought that the league should do what it could to assist.
