Mr G. L. Cross left yesterday for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Coalmine Owners’ Association.
Mr J. H. Davenport, manager of Reid and Gray, Ltd., Invercargill, leaves today on a short business visit to Dunedin.
Flying Officer R. K. Walker is spending a short leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs R. F. Walker, Woodlands. Mr R. E. Turner has been appointed general manager of Associated Motorists Petrol Company, Ltd. Mr Turner is not a stranger to New Zealand, having been here for the past six years as managing director of the Superior Oil Company of New Zealand in charge of the exploration and development activities of that company in New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia and New Guinea. Mr Turner has a wide knowledge of the various phases of the oil industry, having been engaged for a number of years in that business within the United States as well as abroad. Guests at the Grand Hotel include Mr and Mrs J. S. Hill (Waiuku),Messrs H. M. Christie (Wellington), T. H. Roberts, L. A. Watson, W. Beaven, Mr and Mrs W. R. Binns (Christchurch), Messrs A. P. Elworthy, R. M. Ford (Timaru), S. Girdwood, G. W. Martin, Mr and Mrs P. Caley, Dr R. T. Hay (Dunedin), Mr E. H. Murney (Tapanui).
