BAR TO D.S.C. WON

Auckland Naval Officer

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 9. Advice has been received from the Admiralty that the King has approved the award of a bar to the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant-Commander Charles George Palmer, D.S.C., R.N.Z.N.V.R., for good service in minesweeping for forces operating in support of the sth Army. Lieutenant-Commander Palmer was awarded the D.S.C. in 1942 for outstanding zeal, patience and cheerfulness and for setting an example of wholehearted devotion to duty. In December 1943 he was mentioned in dispatches for good service in attacks on Sicily. In November last he was reported wounded in operations in the Mediterranean. His father is Commander C. H. T. Palmer, R.N.Z.N.V.R. (retired), Auckland.
