Late News BATTLE AT KOHIMA
Allies Reach First Objectives (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, May 7. The Allied forces have reached their first objectives in the Kohima battle which is proceeding satisfactorily, says Reuter’s correspondent at Lord Louis Mountbatten’s headquarters. The Japanese at Imphal are also taking a big beating, losing many men through bombing and artillery fire. Japanese casualties since March 10 have been 5700, representing only the killed which have been counted. The Japanese bury many of their dead to prevent casualties being accurately assessed.
RAID ON BERLIN
(Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, May 7. Today more than 750 Flying Fortresses and Liberators attacked military targets in Berlin and western Germany. This followed heavy night raids by the Royal Air Force on targets well inside France.
