HERITAGE MOVEMENT
A brief address on the objectives of the Heritage M6vement was given by Mr R. W. McCreath to a small attendance of the Gore branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday afternoon. Mr McCreath explained, that the movement had been inaugurated at a meeting of the Gore R.S.A. and Gore Rotary Club about a fortnight ago. The objective was to help the wives and families of those servicemen who had lost their lives. It might be said that it was the duty of the State to take care of dependents, but it must be remembered that benefits were available only until a child reached a certain age. The purpose of the movement was to step in at this I stage and help the child to fulfil its ambition to become a useful citizen; The aim was not to build up a huge sum, but to obtain subscriptions, of say, £1 a year. It was hoped, in addition, to induce 100 citizens to give a straightbut donation of £5 each, which would form part of a capital sum. The work of the movement would not stop at this stage. It Was hoped that it would take an interest in the progress of the children, offering them advice and helping them to fight their economic and other battles. It was up to those who were left to do what they could to ease the mother’s heart.
Mr R. L. Reid was appointed the representative of the Farmers’ Union on toe Heritage Movement committee.
