Birth Rate Of England

(8.0.W.) RUGBY, April 27. Provisional figures for 1943 show that last year the birth rate of England and Wales was the highest since 1928. New low records for infantile mortality and still births were established. The marriage rate was the lowest since 1926. Live births totalled 682,654; representing a rate of 16.5 a 1000. There were 295,414 marriages, giving a rate of 14.3. Compared with the 1942 figures there were nearly 73,000 fewer marriages, and compared with the 1940 figures, when a new high record was set up, there were over 175,000 fewer.

The death rate in 1943 was 12.1 a 1000. The excess of live births over total deaths was 181,217, compared with 173,902 in 1942. ,
