Easter Handicap At Auckland (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 9. Tlie Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting opened at Ellerslie yesterday. The track was soft after showers in the morning. The totalizator handled £149,750 compared with £135,417/10/last year, an increase of £14,332/10/-. After the running of the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, F. Smith, trainer of My Bonnie, entered a protest against the winner, Gay Chat, on the grounds of interference. The protest was dismissed, the stewards deciding that there was some interference, but that it was accidental and did not affect the result. F. Hain, rider of the winner, Royal Jay, was suspended for three months for hitting Our Nation, who ran third, over the head near the finish of the Brighton Hurdles. Results:— EDEN HANDICAP, £6OO.
