SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED
CLIFTON.— The Clifton Hall was well filled when residents and friends met to honour H. L. Wixon and Seaman J. Fisher. Mr H. Smith presided and after extending good wishes to the guests presented each with a wallet containing notes. Mr C. Montague spoke on behalf of the signallers _ and made a presentation to H. L. Wixon. Messrs G. McDermott, J. Bassett, E. A. W. Hughes and K. Smith endorsed the chairman’s remarks and wished the guests of honour God-speed and a safe and speedy return. OTAUTAU. — There was a large attendance in the Town Hall, Otautau, when Ordinary Signaller Allan Fisher was tendered a farewell social and dance. A welcome was also- extended to Private Joseph Mullins, Gunner James Crane and Sergeant E. A. Liddell, on furlough leave. Mr A. A. Liddell was chairman. The Rev. N. F. Sansom spoke for the citizens and Mr A. S. McCrostie conveyed the greetings of the local branch of the R.S.A. Mr Liddell made the customary monetary presentation. He also conveyed the good, wishes of the members of the W.D.F.U. in presenting a parcel of knitted wear to the Navy guest. Mr W. R. Ayson, president of the Patriotic Committee, made a presentation to Sergeant Liddell' on behalf of the Provincial Patriotic Council,
