EASING OF SHOP LIGHTING RESTRICTIONS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 17. In a statement to the Press, the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said that o.ver the Christmas-New Year period it was proposed to relax the restrictions on shop window lighting and exterior decorative lighting from Monday, December 20, until Saturday night, January 6, The restrictions on the use of electricity for shop windows and exterior outline or ornamental lighting, including coloured lighting in the streets, were to be relaxed, he said. This did not mean that power shortage problems had been overcome, said Mr Sullivan, but he had been advised by the Minister of Works that conditions at the hydroelectric stations were good at the moment.
