LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE Higher Prices For Wethers Values for fat wethers showed an improvement of 3/- a head at the LorneVille stock sale yesterday. Fat ewe values remained firm, but medium and inferior sorts were easier by 2/- a head. The yarding of fat sheep was an exceptionally large one for this time of the year. Fat cattle were in small supply and values generally showed an improvement. FAT SHEEP.— There were 1427 yarded against 685 last week. Included were some very good quality wethers and ewes and also a large number of aged and unfinished ewes. Compared with last week, values for wethers were probably 3/- a head dearer and good quality ewes remained firm, but medium and inferior ewes were 2/- a head cheaper. Included in the yarding were a number of fat lambs, for which there was good competition at values ranging from 20/- to 27/-. Heavyweight wethers realized from 41/6 to 44/9, prime medium weights 39/- to 40/6, ligthweights 35/- to 37/6, small 29/- to 32/-; extra good ewes 34/- to 36/6, good quality 28/6 to 31/-, medium 25/6 to 27/-, inferior 18/- to 21/-. FAT CATTLE.— The yarding in this (section was exceptionally small and with the exception of a small number of good quality heifers and a few quality bullocks, the bulk of the yarding consisted mainly of medium to inferior quality cattle of all classes. Values generally showed an improvement. Heavyweight bullocks made from £l7 to £lB 5/-; medium-weight £l4/10/- to £l6; unfinished £ll to £l2/10/-; good quality mediumweight heifers from £l2 to £l3/10/-; handyweight £lO/10/- to £ll/5/-; lightweights £9/5/- to £lO. Medium quality cows made from £lO to £ll/5/-; unfinished £8 to £9; inferior £5/15/- to £7. STORE CATTLE.— There was again a small yarding of only 25 head, consisting mostly of empty cows. These sold from £3 to £4/2/6 with culls down to £l. A pen of breeding cows realized £5/7/6. DAIRY COWS.— There was little demand for dairy cows. Best guaranteed sorts made from £7 to £B, others close to calving from £3 to £4/10/-. STORE SHEEP.— The bulk of the entry of 301 store sheep consisted of hoggets. Small ewe hoggets realized 23/-, wether hoggets up to 19/4 and fourtooth wethers 28/- to 30/-. A pen of indifferently-bred ewes of mixed ages sold at 20/-.

GORE STOCK SALE A good yarding o£ cattle and a small entry of sheep were forward at the fortnightly Gore stock sale yesterday. Prices were about on a par with those ruling at recent sales, according to condition and quality. A big line of fat bullocks, heifers and cows was offered on account of Mr T. L. Morris (Otaraia). He obtained £l6, the top price of the sale, tor a line of bullocks. The same vendor received £l2/5/- for a draft of fat heifers. Other heifers brought up to £l3. Fat cows were wanted up to £l2. The sheep entry was a small one. A fat lamb brought 38/-, fat wethers sold up to 35/6 and fat ewes made from 19/- to 30/-. N.Z. INSURANCE COMPANY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 13. The directors of the New Zealand Insurance Company recommend a final dividend of 1/6 a share, making the year’s distribution 2/6 (unchanged). GOLD-DREDGING RETURN (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 13. The Austral New Zealand return for the 28 days ended July 10 was 5030 z of refined bullion.
