In October last year, the Canterbury Women’s Club sent to Malta three parcels of toys, books, and games for the children of that sorely tried island, and, at the same time, posted a letter expressing sympathy with the women of Malta and admiration of their courage. A letter has been received from the military assistant of the Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Malta, thanking the club for its kindly thought, and for the toys, which had arrived on the day the letter was written—May 14, 1943. To the children of Malta, the writer said, toys had long existed only in dreams. OBITUARY. —Miss Elizabeth Mason, who died at Gore last week at the age of 61, was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs A.
