CHIMNEY FIRE.—At 6.29 last evening the Invercargill Fire Brigade received a call to a chimney fire in Jenkin street. The fire was quickly extinguished with a bucket pump and no damage was caused. INFECTIOUS DISEASES. —During the week ended yesterday seven cases of diptheria, one of eclampsia and one of pulmonary tuberculosis were notified to the Health Department at Invercargill. One death from pulmonary tuberculosis occurred in the district during the week. OYSTER INDUSTRY.—On Saturday the oyster fleet returned to port about 9 a.m. because of heavy seas in the straits. With the prospect of better weather it is hoped that the supply of oysters will more than meet the demand. It is considered probable that providing the good weather lasts the number of sacks brought in this season will compare favourably with those of last season, when the number was 53,207 Va. WAR GRAVES IN AFRICA.—As a result of the recent publication in The Southland i Times of a paragraph relating to a map of war graves in North Africa held by Mr N. Metzger, of Winton, inquiries have come to hand from many sources. The latest is a letter from Auckland.
