JUNIOR CLASS OF CIVIC BAND

Excellent progress has been made by the junior class of the Invercargill Civic Band. The class was formed some time ago with the object of filling vacancies caused by members of the band joining the forces. Last night the class held a competition, the winner and runner-up being given medals donated by the president, Mr C. B. Broad. There was a large attendance of the parents of the boys and the guests included the Mayor, Mr A. Wachner, and Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P. At the conclusion of the programme the boys were congratulated on the high standard of work which they had reached in a short period under the band’s conductor, Mr A. R. Wills. The first prize was awarded to R. Wills, who was the youngest bandsman competing. A. Broad was second and three boys, W. Heslin, N. Smith and M. Withington, were third equal.
