SOLE AUTHORITY FOR COLLECTING

SOURCES OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS

The honorary organizer of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council, Mr P. L. Hodge, states that from the experience of the last three years it is considered that a joint statement by the heads of the various organizations interested in patriotic funds would remove many misapprehensions and assist in closer co-operation by all organizations in the raising of patriotic funds in this provincial district. All these organizations that spend money overseas or in New Zealand on patriotic purposes received all the money from the patriotic fund. This applies to churches, the Y.M.C.A., the Salvation Army, Red Cross and St. John for sick and wounded and prisoners of war. The Southland Patriotic Council is the sole collecting authority in Southland for all the funds required for the welfare and care of all the men or women in the services in every part of the world. The following statement is therefore issued as a guide:—

“As our organizations are directly interested in the expenditure of. patriotic funds, we would ask all members, friends and supporters of these organizations to contribute as generously as they can to the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council’s all purposes patriotic (1943) ‘On To Victory’ appeal, and to co-operate as actively as possible in all efforts for the raising of the, funds.” The statement is signed by the following:—

J. D. CAMPBELL, Chairman of the Joint Council Order of St. John and Red Cross Society. F. LANGE, Chairman of the Y.M.C.A. J. A. LUSH, For the Church of England Military Affairs Committee. A. J. T. FRASER, Chairman of Ministers’ Association. MONSIGNOR M. HOWARD, For the Catholic War Services. G. SPILLETT (Adjutant), For the Salvation Army. P. L. HODGE, President of the Returned Services Association.
