SAFETY FOR ROAD USERS

In response to representations made by the Automobile Association (Southland) the Public Works Department has decided to have white marker posts erected on the curve approaching the Spur Head bridge on the InvercargillEdendale highway. The purpose of the posts is to indicate at night time the turn on to the road. This was reported at the meeting of the general committee of the Automobile Association (Southland) last night. On the recommendation of the traffic committee it was decided to suggest to the City Council that a dome be placed in Grey street in line with Herbert street to avoid traffic cutting the corner, and that the two traffic domes in Herbert street be removed, leaving the one dome at present in Kelvin street.

The chairman, Mr S. C. K. Smith, reported that the assistant district railways engineer had promised that the crossing at Lindisfarne street would be put in order at an early date. Mr Smith also reported that he had been informed by the engineer that the wigwag signals at such railway crossings as that in Clyde street were put into operation when trains were on the side lines.
