FIRE SERVICES CONFERENCE
The formation of a National Council to co-ordinate emergency fire services throughout New Zealand and reorganize them on a war footing was agreed upon at a conference of Dominion fire services held at Wellington this week. The representation on the council is: Fire Boards Association, two representatives; Superintendents’ and Deputies’ Association, one; United Fire Brigades’ Association, two; municipal authorities, one; Officers and' Firemen's United Federation, one; and four district fire controllers. The Minister of National Service (the Hon. D. Wilson) is chairman and Mr JS. Hunter, Director of National Service, is his deputy. Mr J. Philp, superintendent of the Inver-
cargill Fire Brigade, is the Superintendent*’ Association representative on the council. He is president of the association. It was stated at the conference that all grade 1 firemen with under three years’ service would be released for service with the armed forces.
