Sporting TIMARU RACES TODAY

THE RAKER FAVOURED IN CUP (Special) CHRISTCHURCH. April 9. The South Canterbury Jockey Club seems set for a successful race meeting tomorrow provided the weather remains fine. It nas been cold and threatening here today, no only will the fields at Washdyke be large, but the quality is good, most of the best horses in the South Island being engaged. Arctic Dawn, one of the fancied candidates for the Timaru Cup, caused his connections some anxiety yesterday as he was very stiff in one of his hocks when he returned home after his gallop. His stablemate, Botany, is also in that race as well as the Rosewill Hack Handicap, in which he is topweight. His trainer stated this morning that the porgramme for him was not dennite. Cotton „expects him to run well m whichever event he starts. M. B. Edwards was on the scene this morning with his two-year-old Tikakoura.
