APPOINTMENTS IN ARMY
INVERCARGILL MAN PROMOTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 8. The following appointments and promotions of officers of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. overseas were gazetted tonight:—Lieutenant-Colonel (acting Brigadier) J. T. Burrows to be brigadier (temporary) wliile commanding an infantry brigade. The following majors are to be lieuten-ant-colonels (temporary) while commanding Infantry battalions:—R. W. Harding. M.M., C. L. Pleasants, M.C., and R. E. Romans. Major Barker is appointed to command the Maori Battalion and is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Major (acting Lieutenant-Colonel) D. J. Fountaine, M.C., is to be lieutenant-colonel (temporary) while commanding an infantry battalion. Captain R. S. Pearson is to be major (temporary) while employed as brigade major of an infantry brigade. Major (temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) C. M. Williamson. E.D., is to be lieutenantcolonel and Major J. K. Robbie (Invercargill) is to be lieutenant-coionel (temporary) while commanding a machine-gun battalion. In the New Zealand Ordnance Corps Colonel T. King is to be brigadier (temporary) while employed as Deputy Director of Ordnance Services, General Headquarters, Middle East Forces. In the New Zealand Artillery Majors J. M. Mitchell and R; C. Queree (temporary lieutenant-colonels) are gazetted lieutenantcolonels. Major W. A. T. McGuire, of the New Zealand A.S.C., is gazetted lieutenantcolonel. In the New Zealand Railway Construction and Maintenance Group, Captain Christie is to be major (temporary) while commanding the New Zealand engineer and ordnance training depot. Brigadier C. E. Weir, D. 5.0., New Zealand Artillery, is appointed officer in charge of New Zealand Artillery, 2nd N.Z.E.F., in addition to his present appointment. Lieu-tenant-Colonel A. H. Andrews, New Zealand nrdnance Corps, is appointed officer in charge, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, in addition to his present appointment. Major H. E. Crosse, M.C., is appointed to command a New Zealand reception depot, and Major I. A. Hart is appointed second in command of the Maori Battalion. Major J. O. Kelsey, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, is appointed staff officer, ordnance services, 2nd N.Z.E.F., and Majors H. M. McElroy, H. M. Green and T. C. Campbell, M.C., are appointed respective seconds in command of three infantry battalions. Lieutenant-Colonel J. K. Robbie’ was a member of the staff of J. G. Ward and Co., Ltd., before the war. He was a keen territorial officer and went overseas with the rank of captain.
